These Funky Things Called Drones

Drones have been a recent technology that has absolutely been sweeping the nation. It feels like everyone is trying to get involved in the drone game now, whether it be your neighbor, companies, your school, or even sports leagues!

Prior to the massive drone market we see today, drones were really only used by the military. They were seen as far back as World War II with the Ryan Firebee and even saw use during the Vietnam War. Since their use then they have seen increased use over the years to a very substantial use in the military today. They see a lot of use in horrible ways, such as drones dropping bombs on countries where we have no reason for bombing them in the first place, let alone using these unmanned vehicles to do the dirty deed.

With civilian drones, a lot of the better use of these drones can be seen. Their use is seen greatly with dangerous storms and the aftermath. People can use drones to observe the storms from a safe distance to see how bad they are actually getting. After a storm they can be used to see how bad the area is and what areas should be focused on first for relief efforts. They can also be used by fire departments and the police for similar uses, to see how fires are spreading or to search for a criminal in an area.

Drones can be used for cultural reasons as well! They see their use in multiple festivals now to make very elaborate light shows in the sky. An example of this was seen at the Chinese Lantern Festival which you can see here:

Despite the many positive benefits that come from drones, there are the possible negatives of safety and privacy. There are many inexperienced people nowadays who are using drones so safety has to be a major concern. They could fly them into people, or into peoples houses and it could cause damages that people would have to pay to get fixed. With privacy, people can fly them really wherever they want, meaning they could fly it right into their backyard if they wanted to, which does cause concern for many people.

Despite the negatives, I think that drones are a useful tool for society. They allow many people to gain access to a newer and advanced form of technology that isn't too difficult to learn with time. It has so many positive uses for professions that it really helps to make jobs easier in difficult scenarios and help to risk less of manpower in very dangerous professions as well.
